He walked one and fanned two. BC starter Kevin Boggan (2-3) pitched well for four innings, but ran out of gas and did not get out of the fifth. Boggan and Surkamp controlled the first three innings. Boggan allowed just two hits and two walks through three, while Surkamp walked three in the second inning but did not allow a hit. The Wolfpack broke the ice and scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Pat Ferguson led off with a walk and Caleb Mangum doubled off the wall in right-center to put runners on second and third with none out. Roskopf got one run home with a single through the right side of the infield, and Dallas Poulk made it 2-0 with a foul sacrifice fly to left.
The Eagles came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Jared McGuire led off with a single to shallow center field, and Tony Sanchez and Campbell followed with back-to-back one-hop doubles off the wall in right-center, the latter driving in McGuire and Campbell to tie the score at 2-2.
The roof caved in on Boggan in the top of the fifth. Jeremy Synan led off with a single through the right side, and Ryan Pond doubled into the gap in right-center to put runners on second and third with none out. A one-out walk to Mangum loaded the bases for Roskopf, who cleared them with a grand-slam homer to straightaway center field to make it 6-2. Poulk hit the next pitch through the right side for a single, got picked off but advanced all the way to third when Sanchez’s throw was wide for an error. Drew Martin singled to left-center to drive in Poulk, and Florio made it 9-2 with a two-run homer to right. Corona reached on an infield single and Pond drew a two-out walk to finally send Boggan to the showers. Dan Houston came in for Boggan and gave up an RBI-single to right to Ferguson to give tbe Wolfpack a 10-2 lead.
The sixth inning was just as productive for the Wolfpack. Roskopf led off and belted a tape-measure homer to right field. Poulk reached when his line drive went right through the glove of second baseman Joseph Ayers for an error. Martin doubled to right-center to put runners on second and third. With one down, Corona hit a grounder to third that Campbell kicked for an error. Poulk scored on the play, and Synan followed with a single to right field to drive in Martin and send Corona to third. Synan took second on the throw to the plate. The defensive problems continued for BC when Pond hit a grounder to shortstop that Ryan Hutchinson booted for an error, driving in Corona to make it 14-2.
Steven Cadoret came in for Houston, and Ferguson welcomed him to the game with a single to left-center, scoring Synan and sending Pond to third. Ferguson took second on the throw to the plate, and Mangum’s single to right drove in Pond to make it 16-2 and leave runners on first and third. Roskopf walked to load the bases, and Poulk drove in the final run of the inning with a groundout.
BC scored twice in the bottom of the seventh. Brandon Zieman reached on a force play and Barry Butera singled to left. Mike Augustine pinch-hit and hit a fly ball to right field that Matt Payne lost in the sun. The ball fell in for a two-run double.
The Wolfpack got those runs back and one to spare in the top of the eighth. Tomy Foschi reached on a one-out infield single, Florio walked, and Corona hit a three-run homer to left to make it 20-4.
Roskopf got the ninth started with a one-out single through the right side. Poulk and Foschi walked to load the bases. Florio singled to center to drive in a run, and Wade Moore and Marcus Jones both walked to force in a pair of runs. The final run scored on a passed ball, giving NC State a 20-run win at 24-4.
