Baseball Shuts Out Gardner-Webb 8-0

Brackman (2-0) picked up the win after pitching five strong innings. He allowed three hits, two of them bunts, walked two and struck out eight. Gillheeney alolowed one hit and one walk in his three innings and now has retired 21 of the last 23 men he has faced. Brown made his first college appearance and breezed through the ninth inning on eight pitches, retiring all three men he faced.
Josh Drewery (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs. He worked four innings and allowed four runs, all earned, on three hits. He walked three and struck out two.
Florio was one of eight NC State hitters with one hit apiece. Jeremy Synan went 1-for-3 and also drove in a pair of runs, and Ryan Pond, Marcus Jones, Pat Ferguson and David Lindsay also drove in runs for the Wolfpack.
Drewery cruised through the Wolfpack batting order through the first two innings, and came one out away from getting out of the third before Tommy Foschi worked him for a two-out walk and Florio drilled a two-run homer over the scoreboard in left-center field. That gave NC State a 2-0 lead through three innings.
Synan led off the bottom of the fourth with a walk and Mike Roskopf doubled off the wall in left to put runners at second and third with none out. Jones drove in Synan with a one-out sacrifice fly to right, and Ferguson doubled to right-center to chase home Roskopf and make it 4-0.
Foschi led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to left and stole second. Florio walked and Ramon Corona reached on an infield single to load the bases with none out. Synan drove in two runs with a single to right, and Pond made it 7-0 with an RBI grounder to second base.
Matt Payne led off the bottom of the eighth with a single through the left side and went to second on a wild pitch. Matt Tafazzoli hit Jones with a pitch and Dallas Poulk pinch-ran. Ferguson moved the runners to second and third with a groundout to first base, and Lindsay picked up his first college RBI with a sacrifice fly to center field.
NC State and Gardner-Webb will conclude their two-game series on Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the internet at gopack.com.
