Tim Peeler, author of “Legends of NC State Basketball,” watched the 1983 NCAA title game at his parents’ home in Vale, NC. A high school senior who had already been accepted at NC State, Peeler grew up a fan of David Thompson and NC State’s 1974 NCAA Championship team. Like most residents of the state, he was caught up in the Wolfpack’s remarkable run in the spring of 1983. When Lorenzo Charles made college basketball’s most famous offensive rebound and dunk, Peeler jumped straight up out of his seat and directly into a low-hanging light fixture. Less than two years later, he became a sports writer for Technician, NC State’s student newspaper, covering NC State basketball and other sports. After nearly 20 years of working for newspapers in North and South Carolina, where he won multiple national and state writing awards, Peeler went to work in the NC State athletics department in 2004 and is currently the managing editor of the official website of Wolfpack athletics, www.gopack.com. He lives in Cary, NC, with his wife, Elizabeth, and sons, Michael and Benjamin.
