NC State and the Atlantic Coast Conference released the 2007 football schedule for head coach Tom O’Brien’s first season with the Wolfpack. NC State will face eight teams that earned bowl bids in 2006, including two BCS Bowl competitors, Louisville and Wake Forest. In addition, Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, East Carolina, Miami and Maryland all went to bowls last season.
O’Brien’s Wolfpack will face three teams ranked in the final Associated Press poll, with the highest-ranked foe being No. 6 Louisville. Games against Wake Forest (18) and Boston College (20) also are scheduled.
Seven of the games are home contests as Central Florida, Wofford, Clemson, Louisville, Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland all make the trip to Raleigh. The remaining five games will be on the road, with trips to Boston College, Florida State, East Carolina, Miami and Wake Forest.
NC State will hit the road early for its ACC opener, playing at Boston College on September 8. It is the earliest that a Wolfpack squad has played a road contest since travelling to Wake Forest on September 6, 2003, in the second contest of that season.
The Louisville game is the only game not finalized, as it could be moved from Saturday, September 29 to Thursday, September 27. The ACC will release the final date at the end of January.
The open weekend is October 13, exactly at the midpoint of the season.
