RALEIGH, N.C. — With scouting directors projecting NC State junior righthander Andrew Brackman as possibly one of the first three players to be taken in this coming June’s Major League Baseball Draft, it should come as no surprise that those same scouting directors have unanimously tabbed Brackman a preseason first-team All-American for Baseball America magazine.
A 6-foot-10 junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, Brackman had his sophomore season derailed by a hip injury, limiting him to just 28 innings in seven appearances. He managed a 1-3 record and a 6.35 ERA, numbers that pale compared to his freshman season, when he went 4-0 with a 2.09 ERA in 10 appearances, all Wolfpack wins.
Brackman, realizing what is at stake with his draft year in baseball at hand, has turned his attention full time to baseball.
Brackman and Vanderbilt’s David Price, also a junior righthander, were the only unanimous picks for the first team. In its capsule, BA wrote, “Pitching is clearly the cream of this year's college draft class. David Price and Andrew Brackman were the only two unanimous first-team choices, and stand out as the top arms in a junior class of college pitchers that is deep, talented and relatively well rounded.”
