NFL Pack Blitz: Week 2

Raleigh, N.C. - Week 2 of the NFL season saw former NC State players on both ends of blowouts, one highlight of the year candidate, and one former Pack wideout making his debut with his new squad. Here are some of the standout performances from former NC State football players in Week 2:
• Jerricho Cotchery had one of the top catches of the weekend, as he avoided a tackle and stayed on his feet for a 71-yard touchdown, his second in as many weeks. Cotchery finished with 6 catches for 121 yards, his first career 100-yard game. The Jets fell to New England 24-17.
• Philip Rivers continued his hot start to the season, leading the San Diego Chargers to a 40-7 blowout over Tennessee. Rivers completed 25-of-35 passes for 235 yards, with a 12-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
• Brian Williams had a strong game on Monday Night Football, helping the Jacksonville Jaguars shut out the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers 9-0. Williams finished with three tackles, and was in on many pass break-ups.
• Another former Pack DB, Adrian Wilson, notched his first interception of the season in the Arizona Cardinals 21-10 loss to Seattle. Wilson also finished with seven tackles, including two sacks.
• Two former NC State players faced off in San Francisco, when the 49ers hosted the St. Louis Rams. Manny Lawson won the battle, as the 49ers came away with a 20-13 win. Lawson recorded two sacks in the game, and Torry Holt had 5 catches for 30 yards and a 16-yard touchdown for the Rams in the loss.
• Alvis Whitted lead the Oakland receivers with three catches for 45 yards in the Raiders 28-6 loss at Baltimore.
• Koren Robinson suited up for his new team, the Green Bay Packers, playing in the Packers 34-27 loss to New Orleans. Even though he did not have a catch, Robinson returned four kickoffs for an average of 18.3 yards.
• A couple of former defensive standouts were on the losing end of blowouts over the weekend. Terrence Holt had six tackles in the Detroit Lions 34-7 loss to Chicago, and Mario Williams finished with two tackles in Houston’s 43-24 loss at Indianapolis.
• Dovonte Edwards of the Minnesota Vikings was placed on injured reserve after suffering a broken arm, and will miss the 2006 season.
