NC State football coach Chuck Amato said Sunday that sophomore wide receiver Darrell Blackman had an MRI on his sprained knee Sunday afternoon and will know the results by Monday morning.
Blackman, one of the nation’s premier kickoff returners and one of the Wolfapck’s most versatile offensive weapons, hurt his knee on the opening kickoff of Saturday night’s 37-17 loss at Southern Mississippi and did not return to the game.
Amato also said he and his coaches would meet Monday morning to discuss any potential personnel changes, for Saturday's ACC opener against Boston College. The Wolfpack (1-2) face the undefeated Eagles (3-0) at 8 p.m. Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium, a game that will be televised on ESPN2.
“We just got done with the film probably 40 minutes ago: offense, defense and kicking,” Amato said in his Sunday evening teleconference with reporters. “We will talk personnel first thing Monday morning. And when any changes in any personnel are made, we will make them then and we will talk to our players before we do anything, whether it is a defensive end or right tackle or whatever.”
“We feel that is the way it should be done.”
Amato also praised the play of redshirt sophomore quarterback Daniel Evans, who led the Wolfpack on a second-half scoring drive and completed eight of his 11 passes for 97 yards. He had a 21-yard touchdown pass to John Dunlap in the fourth quarter.
“The first time he was in, Southern Miss still had several starters still in the game,” Amato said. “He did quite a few good things, we all saw that. He got his feet wet, which is good, and he did some good things, that is for sure.”
