NC State’s Andrew Brackman will be making his first start for the U.S National Team on Thursday night when he takes the mound against Mexico at the FISU World University Championships in Havana, Cuba. After being added to the USA roster last week, Brackman made a brief relief appearance, pitching an inning of one-hit, shutout baseball in an exhibition game in Fayetteville. Thursday’s stint, however, will mark his first start and first appearance in the World Championships.
Team USA is off to a great start at the tournament, having outscored its first three opponents 34-0. The squad improved its record in the event to 3-0 on Wednesday with an 11-0 win over the Czech Republic.
Brackman, a rising junior at NC State, is now completely healthy after missing most of last baseball season with a hairline fracture in his hip.
