McCargo signs five-year deal with the Buffalo Bills
Although he lined up on the opposite side of NFL No. 1 draft pick Mario Williams, Manny Lawson hardly played in anyone's shadow during his outstanding career at NC State. The San Francisco 49ers certainly noticed the speedy Lawson, making him the 22nd pick in April's NFL Draft. On Thursday night, Lawson joined his teammates at training camp after signing his first pro contract. He was scheduled to participate in workouts on Friday.
After playing outside linebacker as a freshman, Lawson was moved to defensive end during his sophomore year and immediately became a disruptive force. The 6-5, 240-pound native of Goldsboro played a total of 50 games for the Wolfpack, starting 25 of those games.
He finished with 196 tackles, 40 quarterback pressures and 20 sacks, including 10 as a senior. Lawson also ranks second on NC State's all-time mark for blocked kicks with seven.
