RALEIGH, N.C. - Four student-athletes from NC State were among the names included on the 2006 All-ACC Academic Softball Team as announced by conference Commissioner John D. Swofford this week. Sophomore Megan Dalthorp, juniors Shaina Ervin, Heather Gelbard and Jennifer Patterson each picked up the conference distinction.
To be eligible for consideration to the All-ACC Academic Softball Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during their academic career.
In addition to excelling in the classroom, all four players held valuable roles on a Wolfpack team that won both the ACC regular season and conference tournament crowns. Dalthorp, a psychology major, tossed seven wins with a 2.41 ERA, while Gelbard, also studying psychology, batted .286 with 28 RBIs and eight home runs.
Ervin, majoring in parks, recreation and tourism, collected First-Team All-ACC accolades and was named MVP of the ACC Tournament. In total, she grabbed 20 wins on the season and just three loses with a 1.45 ERA. Patterson, also a parks, recreation and tourism major, served as a valuable pinch hitter off of the bench. Along with Ervin and Jen Chamberlin, Patterson made history as a trio of Pack hitters knocked consecutive home runs against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 19 at the Worth Wildcat Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
