NC State Wrestling Signs Three In April Signing Period

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State wrestling coach Carter Jordan announced today the signing of Phil Black, William Gilliland, and Adam Pittman to National Letters of Intent to attend NC State University next fall and compete for the Wolfpack wrestling team.
"We are very excited about the addition of William, Adam and Phil to our program," said Jordan. "All three were highly recruited athletes who will make an impact on our team next season and into the future."
Gilliland, who hails from Catawba, N.C., is a senior at Bandys High School and earned high school All-American honors at 152 pounds with a sixth place finish at the High School National Championships. The state champion at 160 pounds, Gilliland went 68-0 as a senior and was named the 2006 North Carolina Senior of the Year by NCMAT.com. A three-time state place winner, Gilliland finished third for the 2006 North Carolina Wrestler of the Year by NCMAT.com.
Pittman, a native of Chesapeake, Va., is a senior at Great Bridge High School. A two-time state champion at 135 pounds, Pittman finished fourth at the 2006 High School National Championships, earning high school All-American honors at 140 pounds. He also took third place at the Beast of the East Tournament.
Black is a senior at Absegami High School in Absecon, N.J. A three-time state place winner, Black is a former high school teammate of current NC State wrestler Ryan Goodman.
Black, Pittman and Gilliland join fall signees Darrion Caldwell, a 135-pounder of Rahway, N.J., and Ray Ward, a 119-pounder from Nazareth, Pa., to give NC State a strong five-man class of signees for the 2005-06 recruiting season.
