We departed Reynolds for the airport Thursday at about 5 pm. As we were pulling away in the bus, coach makes a last minute check to see if everyone has their ID's for the plane. We here a shout from the back that say's "Wait, I don't have mine". The voice we heard was Jen Chamberlin. No way we are leaving this girl behind, I thought to myself. Come to find out Jen left her wallet at the sub place while getting a snack for the travel. But we found it and everyone made the flight.
We arrived in Tucson, Arizona at almost midnight with a game to play the next morning at nine. But we didn't let that slow us down. Our first game against Pacific went eight innings and aged all the coaches about ten years. It was quite the thriller. We were all determined that we were not going to let this team take us down.
Despite the fact that Megan Dalthorp pitched a great game on the mound we were down 4-2 going into the bottom of the eighth. We had bases loaded when coach pinch hit Miranda Ervin. It came down to the last pitch. But there was no doubt this one was gone! The whole team flew out of the dugout to meet her at the plate. What a shot! All our hearts were racing after this hit. Jen put my hand on her heart after the game and it was beating 90 miles an hour. She looked at Boo (Miranda Ervin) and said look what you just did to me.
After the game we headed to Jason's Deli for a relaxing lunch. We did not have our next game until 8 pm so we now had time to catch a little shut eye. We came out ready to go in this game. It was a big deal to play a ranked team. We approached this game as if it were any other game. We came out ready to win. We were playing on the field of a lifetime and were ready to make a statement.
That is just what we did!
We scored six runs in the first two innings with a team effort of hitting. Abbie Sims kept them scoreless through seven and we came out with a huge win. We then left the field with nothing but smiles, all the while knowing we had two more big games on Saturday.
