RALEIGH, N.C. - Even though he probably will not see action on the baseball diamond before late March, sophomore righthander Andrew Brackman dominated Atlantic Coast Conference hitters so thoroughly as a freshman a year ago that Baseball America magazine has named Brackman a second-team preseason All-American for the 2006 season.
Brackman, who joined the NC State baseball team on March 26 immediately following the conclusion of the basketball season, made 10 appearances, seven of them starts, and went 4-0 with a 2.09 ERA. The Pack won all 10 games in which B rackman appeared. He worked 43 innings, allowed 32 hits, walked 18 and struck out 43.
Joining the 6-10 Brackman on the BA Preseason All-America team was first baseman Aaron Bates, who was named to BA's third team All-America team. Bates was NC State's most fearsome hitter in some time, batting .425 with 16 doubles, 12 home runs and 64 RBIs. He led the Wolfpack in 10 offensive categories, including average, home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and total bases.
Baseball America ranked the Wolfpack at No. 24 in its preseason top 25 poll.
