RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State wrestling team will look to bounce back from a disappointing loss at Navy this past weekend when the Pack hosts UNC Greensboro on Wednesday at Reynolds Coliseum. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Wolfpack, 7-4-1, is coming off a disappointing 38-0 loss to the 19th-ranked Midshipmen, and UNCG, 9-1 and off to the best start in school history, figures to be a difficult opponent for a bounceback match.
No. 12-ranked heavyweight Tyler Shovlin (18-5) leads the Spartans, who feature two other ranked wrestlers, 17th-ranked Kevin Artis (19-7 at 141) and No. 20 Daren Burns (11-5 at 197).
NC State's lone ranked wrestler, 12th-ranked 197-pounder Ryan Goodman, is 15-4, but has been on the mat just once since spraining his left knee January 7. His status for Wednesday night will not be decided until the time of the match.
Junior heavyweight Jainor Palma (20-6) and freshman 149-pounder Joe Caramanica (19-6) have been the Wolfpack's leaders with Goodman out, while sophomore 157-pounder Kody Hamrah (3-2 and the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year) has been rounding into shape since returning from early-season injuries.
The match with UNCG marks the beginning of a four-match homestand for the Wolfpack, which does not hit the road again until February 18 at Virginia Tech.
