RALEIGH, N.C. - A week and a day after a disappointing tie with arch-rival North Carolina, the NC State wrestling team travels to Annapolis, Md., on Saturday to take on 19th-ranked Navy in a non-conference dual match. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
Junior heavyweight Jainor Palma (20-5), freshman 149-pounder Joe Caramanica (19-5), redshirt-freshman 197-pounder Ryan Goodman and sophomore 157-pounder Kody Hamrah (3-1) lead the Wolfpack, which is 7-3-1 this season in dual matches.
Palma has won eight of his last 10 bouts and already has eclipsed his career high for wins in a season. Caramanica is one win from becoming the first Wolfpack freshman to win 20 in a season since Tommy Davis went 20-8 in 1997-98.
Hamrah, the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, has wrestled sparingly but extremely well due to injuries to his ankle and wrist. Goodman has been on the mat just once since spraining his left knee January 7. Goodman, ranked No. 11 nationally, will be a match-time decision this weekend.
Sixth-ranked heavyweight Tanner Garrett (32-2) leads the Midshipmen, who are 9-1 in dual matches. John Cox (26-7) is ranked No. 19 at 149 pounds, and John Jarred (26-7 at 157) and Matt Stolpinski (20-6 at 174) also have won 20 matches this season for Navy. Chris Pogue (18-7 at 197) is pushing the 20-win mark.
