NC State will open the 2006 football season with five of its first six games at Carter-Finley stadium, then will play four of its last six games on the road. Eight of the Wolfpack's 12 upcoming opponents competed in postseason play last season, including a national champion and seven bowl teams.
The Wolfpack will kick off Chuck Amato's seventh campaign on September 2 at home against defending I-AA National Champion Appalachian State, and then will play host to Akron the following weekend. The ACC schedule opens on Sept. 23, when Boston College makes its first-ever visit to Carter-Finley Stadium. That game will mark the first of three back-to-back home league games, as Florida State will visit on Oct. 5 for an ESPN Thursday night contest, and then Wake Forest will be in town on Oct. 14.
For the third straight season, NC State will not face Duke, but will play Virginia (in Charlottesville on Oct. 28) after a two-year hiatus. The Pack will face four teams from the state of North Carolina (App. State, Wake Forest, UNC and East Carolina). Opponents Akron, Southern Miss, Boston College, Florida State, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Clemson were all bowl teams in 2005.
