RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State rifle team will open its season on Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Army Marksmanship Unit Invitational. The team returns only four letterwinners from last year's squad, although three of those returnees placed in the top-seven among shooters in the South Eastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) last season. Junior Jennifer Marshall, the 2005 SEARC individual champion will look to captain the squad at Sunday's event.
Along with Marshall, junior Matthew Gifford, sophomore Thomas Knight and redshirt sophomore Bill Reynolds will return to the fold for the red and white. Gifford and Knight, in addition to Marshall, each placed within the top-eight shooters in the SEARC last season.
Three newcomers, Noel Keck, Jenna Matino, and Sarah Jo Pleasants, will be competing in their first meet. Keck and Pleasants, both true freshmen, came to the program after successful junior careers. Matino, who is currently a sophomore, joined the team in the spring after competing with the Sir Walter Gun Club.
