Chuck It Recycling

With apologies to E. F. Hutton, when Chuck Amato speaks people listen! Since 2003 the Wolfpack head football coach has been asking fans to do their part and pitch their bottles and cans as part of the Chuck It Recycling Program. Wolfpackers have responded by "chucking" 20 tons of recyclables that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. This year, NC State expects the numbers to rise even more. For the first time ever the Chuck It Recycling Program will come inside Carter-Finley Stadium. All fans have to do is look for the special "Chuck It Zones" along the concourses, then do their part and "Chuck It".
"I'm calling on all fans to support the Chuck It Recycling Program," said Amato. "This program is very important to NC State and we want to continue to be the model for all universities to follow." The coach will once again be featured in videos that will air on the Carter-Finley Stadium videoboard. Plus, his likeness will be on display in the various "Chuck It Zones", located both inside and outside of the stadium.
The Chuck It Recycling Program is a joint effort between title sponsor, Waste Industries, and the NC State University of Waste Reduction and Recycling. For the Raleigh headquartered company "Chuck It" has been a hit from the start.
"Waste Industries is pleased to have helped get the Chuck It Recycling Program kicked off in 2003," remarked Jim Perry, President and CEO of Waste Industries. "The Chuck It Program has been very successful in helping demonstrate how recycling can improve our environment on game day and every day."
Before games fans can still take their bottles and cans to designated "Chuck It Zones", located throughout the parking lots and outside the gates of the stadium. They can also look for the "Chuckwagons", as they patrol the parking lots of Carter-Finley Stadium and the RBC Center. Then once inside the sold-out stadium it's a whole new ballgame.
"We encourage the Wolfpack fans to do their part by bringing their cans and bottles from the stands to the new bins," added Lindsay Killian, Recycling Coordinator at NC State's OWRR. "We hope the addition to Chuck It will not only make recycling easier, but will increase the amount of material that we divert from the landfill each game."
