RALEIGH, N.C. - Reneé LaCroix went 3-for-3 and Abbie Sims hit a two-out RBI double as NC State downed Coastal Carolina 4-2 in the first game of a softball doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 20. The Wolfpack (35-22) built an early 3-0 lead after three innings and Megan Dalthorp (4-1) pitched six strong innings for the win. She allowed one run on five hits while striking out three Chanticleers' (19-19) batters in her first win since Mar. 12 against Miami (Ohio). Shaina Ervin allowed one run in the seventh but picked up her first career save in relief. Danyelle Gerdts (2-6) took the loss for Coastal Carolina.
Tess Corona had a RBI single and Miranda Ervin went 2-for-2 with a RBI as the reigning ACC Player of the Week continued her hot hitting.
NC State jumped on the board early with a run in the bottom of the first inning on a Miranda Ervin RBI single. Heather Gelbard led off with a walk to start the game, and pinch runner Ashleigh Davis came in to run. Davis advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored with one out on a single to left center from Ervin, her 22nd RBI of the season.
Two more runs came across in the bottom of the third for the Wolfpack, with a two-run double by Abbie Sims giving NC State a 3-0 lead. After Gerdts recorded two outs for the Chanticleers to start the inning, Ervin hit her second single of the game, and moved to second on a walk to Jen Chamberlin. Sims hit the 3-2 offering down the left field line to make it 3-0.

After Allison Cantrell grounded out to Dalthorp to advance the runners, Meagen Johnson singled to right field to trim the Wolfpack lead to 3-1. With two outs and the bases loaded, Dalthorp got Kelly Feely to pop out to second to end the inning.
