GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State scored early and often Tuesday, scoring eight runs on 11 hits through the first four innings, and cruised to an 11-6 victory over UNC Greensboro at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. The win, NC State's second over UNCG in eight days, lifted the Wolfpack to 12-4 on the season. The Spartans dropped to 7-5 with the loss.

Redshirt-sophomore Sam Walls (3-0) started for NC State and got the win after pitching five shutout innings. He allowed three hits, struck out six and did not allow a walk. Jonathan Nichols (0-1) started and took the loss for UNCG, allowing four runs, two of them earned, on seven hits in two-plus innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Aaron Bates led the NC State offense with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Bates now has six hits and five RBIs in his last nine at-bats. Jonathan Diaz had three singles and drove in a run. Matt Camp and Jason St. Julien had two hits apiece for the Wolfpack. Danny McClure had three hits and three RBIs for UNCG.

Camp got the Wolfpack on the board in the top of the first by driving a single to center field, stealing second, advancing to third on a groundout and scoring on Bates' line-drive single to center.

The Pack scored three in the top of the second. Lee Mezistrano led off, reached on catcher's interference, stole second and scored on Ramon Corona's double down the left-field line. Corona went to third on a wild pitch and scored on St. Julien's single to left-center. Bates added a two-out RBI single to right to drive in St. Julien and make it 4-0, Wolfpack.

Matt Devine led off the top of the third with a walk, and Mezistrano followed with a two-run homer to right, his first of the year, increasing the NC State lead to 6-0. In the top of the fourth, Bryan Kinneberg led off with a single to left, and Bates doubled to left to put runners on second and third with none out. Jake Muyco doubled off the wall in right field to drive in both runners. Muyco was cut down at third base trying for a triple on the play, but the two runs gave NC State an 8-0 lead.

UNCG cut the Wolfpack lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Mike Mongiello led off and beat out a bunt single and Jeremy Rollin doubled right down the left-field line to put runners on second and third with none out. McClure singled to center field to drive in Mongiello and Rollin, and went to second when catcher Caleb Mangum mis[played Cap's throw from the outfield for an error. McClure went to third on Chris Mason's fly ball to right field, and scored when Devine booted Jay Maule's grounder for an error.

Devine led off the top of the seventh for the Wolfpack and singled to left. Mezistrano reached on catcher's interference for the second time in four trips to the plate, and Devine went to third on a fly ball to right field. St. Julien singled up the middle to drive in Devine. Diaz's hit-and-run single drove in Mezistrano and advanced St. Julien to third, and Camp's grounder to shortstop drove in St. Julien to make it 11-3.

The Spartans scored three in the bottom of the ninth. Consecutive walks to Maule, Wes McCall and Sean Snell loaded the bases with none out. Jon Denote drove in Maule with a grounder to first base. Jake Linney drove in McCall with a grounder to shortstop. Greg Feltes walked to put runners on first and third, and McClure singled to right to drive in Snell and make the final score 11-6.
