ATLANTA, Ga. - Jeff Kindell hit a two-run home run and Lee Hyde scattered four hits over seven shutout innings Saturday night as Georgia Tech handed NC State a 5-0 defeat in the second game of a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference baseball series at Chandler Stadium.

The victory extended Tech's ACC record of consecutive conference wins to 24 and lifted the Yellow Jackets to 18-2 overall and 8-0 in the ACC. The loss dropped the Wolfpack to 15-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference. NC State, which dropped the first game of the series on Friday, lost consecutive games for the first time in 2005, and was shut out for the first time since a 1-0 loss at UNC Wilmington last March 23.

Hyde (3-0) walked two and struck out six. He allowed more than one baserunner in an inning just once, and allowed just one baserunner past first base. NC State starter Branden Knapp (1-1) struggled through the first three innings, then settled in and matched Hyde zero for zero into the eighth inning. Following Kindel's homer in the third, Knapp retired nine men in a row, and 13 of the next 14 he faced. Knapp wound up pitching 7 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits. He walked none and struck out six.

Kindel, Steven Blackwood, Andy Hawranick and Jeremy Slayden had two hits each for Georgia Tech. Hawranick had the game's only other extra-base hit, a double. Matt Devine led NC State with a pair if singles in three at-bats.

The Yellow Jackets struck for an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Danny Payne led off and reached on an error. Tyler Greene's sacrifice attempt was so well-placed that he beat it out for an infield single that put runners on first and second with none out. Blackwood singled to right to load the bases, and Slayden drove in the game's first run with a single to right field. Knapp avoided further damage when Kindel grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.

Hawranick led off the bottom of the second with a double down the left-field line, went to third on Michael Fisher's grounder to shortstop, and scored on Payne's single to left, giving the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead. Slayden reached on a force place in the bottom of the third, and Kindel hit a first-pitch two-run homer to right to make it 4-0.

That was all the scoring until Tech added a meaningless run in the bottom of the eighth. Blackwood led off and singled to right. Wes Hodges flied out for the first out, but Slayden singled to right, driving Knapp to the showers. Matt Payne came in for the Wolfpack, and Kindel singled to right to load the bases. Hawranick followed with a potential double-play grounder to third, but Devine was able to retire only the runner at second base after momentarily bobbling the ball. Blackwood scored on the play to make the final score 5-0.
