RALEIGH, N.C. - On Saturday, Feb. 19, the NC State rifle team finished first overall at the Triangle Shoot Out, scoring 1,502 points against North Carolina's 1,045. Competing in a 40 shot air rifle match, the event was somewhat different than the Wolfpack sharp shooters are accustomed to, as the team normally fires 60 standard shots during competition. Sophomore Jennifer Marshall claimed the highest total, firing a 382 score.
Following Marshall, freshman Tom Knight added a 377 score, while redshirt senior Ryan Dorety shot a 374. Sophomore Matthew Gifford rounded out the top four with a 369-point effort. Redshirt freshman Bill Reynolds set a new personal record with his 376 score, although it was not counted towards the team total. Nicholas Stott led UNC with a 244-point performance.
The NC State rifle team will look to defend its South Eastern Air Rifle Conference championships this weekend, Saturday, Feb. 26, at the SEARC Championships in Milledgeville, Ga. Last season the Wolfpack captured their first conference crown since joining the SEARC in 1997.
