Goodman Reaches Semifinals At Las Vegas Invitational

NC State redshirt-freshman Ryan Goodman defeated two ranked wrestlers and won three bouts overall Friday, advancing to the semifinals of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Goodman, a 197-pound transfer from Nebraska, has now won 85 consecutive matches dating back to his junior year at Absegami High School in Cape May, N.J.
Junior 174-pounder Rick Brownlee won his first two bouts before losing Friday night, and sophomore 184-pounder Jeremy Colbert, redshirt-junior 125-pounder Jeremy Hartrum and redshirt-junior 133-pounder Jeff Breese all remained alive and were scheduled to compete in the wrestlebacks on Saturday.
Brownlee had the most impressive victory of the early going for the Wolfpack when he pinned 11th-ranked Nick Roy of Michigan at the 2:43 mark of the first round. Goodman defeated 18th-ranked Casey Phelps of Boise State by a 3-2 decision, and No. 11 Matt Monteiro of California State-Bakersfield.
The semifinals will begin at noon eastern time on Saturday, with the finals and the consolation finals all due to begin at 7 p.m. eastern time.
