The numbers don't lie. Sound like a quote from some coach? No, actually it's one way to sum up the success of the Chuck It Recycling Program. This joint venture between title sponsor, Waste Industries, and the NC State University Office of Waste
Reduction and Recycling, encourages fans to recycle their materials at NC State football games.
It all began during the 2003 season, when special "Chuck It Zones" were placed around the parking lots of Carter-Finley Stadium, and a "Chuck It Wagon" began patrolling the lots of the stadium and RBC Center. The first year generated 9.25 tons of recyclables. The number increased slightly to 9.26 tons in 2004.
Prior to the 2005 season, the decision was made to move the Chuck It Recycling Program inside Carter-Finley Stadium, with the hope it would double the amount of recyclables per game.
The numbers are in, and Wolfpack fans "Chucked" 18.93 tons of recyclables that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill. Mission accomplished!
"Before the season began I challenged all fans to get behind the Chuck It Recycling Program," remarked NC State Head Football Coach Chuck Amato. "The numbers show that Wolfpack Nation has responded and made the 'Chuck It Program' something we can all be proud of."
Similar praises were echoed by those who are on the front lines encouraging fans to "Chuck It" at each game. "This was a fantastic year for the Chuck It Recycling Program," commented Lindsay Killian, Recycling Coordinator for the NC State OWRR. "The addition of the indoor bins resulted in double the collection totals, showing the dedication that Wolfpack fans have to recycling."
For Waste Industries, a Raleigh, North Carolina headquartered company, the Chuck It Recycling Program has been a home
run from the start. "Waste Industries is excited by the success of the Chuck It Recycling Program and thanks all Wolfpack fans for doing their part to support this great cause," said Jim Perry President and CEO of Waste Industries. "We knew NC State would lead the way when it comes to recycling. Now that we've got some great momentum, just like our football team, let's keep it going!"
And the Chuck It Recycling Program will keep going, with the goal of making things even better for the 2006 season. For more information on the Chuck It Recycling Program contact Lindsay Killian at the NC State OWRR at 919-515-9881 or Jim Auten at Waste Industries at 919-325-3000.
