RALEIGH, N.C. - On Saturday, Nov. 5, the NC State rifle team resumed action after a month long hiatus with a win at the SEARC #3 competition in Raleigh. NC State trumped squads from the Citadel, North Georgia and Wofford to move to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in SEARC action. Junior Jennifer Marshall fired a 577 air rifle score to lead NC State, while fellow junior and high school teammate Matthew Gifford placed second with a 566 score. Redshirt sophomore Bill Reynolds set a personal high with a 560 effort. Sophomore Thomas Knight rounded out the top four with a score of 563.
While sophomore Jenna Matino and freshman Noel Keck's totals were not counted with the team score, head coach Keith Miller notices a tremendous upside in their efforts.
"Both of these ladies are closing the gap with our top four," Miller said. "This is going to make everyone better because a team that competes amongst themselves will be stronger when competing against others."
The team will compete next Saturday, Nov. 12, at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. On Sunday, Nov. 13, the team will battle West Virginia and Ole Miss in Morgantown, W.Va.
