Dovonte Edwards and Lamont Reid have been named to the East squad of the 2005 Hula Bowl, to be played at 7:00 p.m. EST on Jan. 22 in Maui, Hawaii. The starting cornerbacks for NC State this past season helped the Wolfpack lead the nation in total defense.
Edwards, a senior from Chapel Hill, N.C., was the co-recepient of the team's Bo Rein Memorial Award at NC State's end-of-the-year banquet, an award annually given to the player who provides a vital contribution in an unsung role. Starting all 11 games, Edwards led the team with three interceptions and was third on the squad with seven pass breakups in 2004. Edwards had 40 tackles, including two for losses. Moved to cornerback from receiver in the spring of 2003, Edwards led the team with 10 pass breakups in 2003. Edwards also played on the Wolfpack basketball team his freshman season.
Reid, a senior from Concord, N.C., was the co-recepient of the team's Governor's Award, given to the team's MVP and he also shared the team's Most Valuable Defensive Back award. Starting all 11 games, Reid led the team with 14 pass breakups and also made 25 tackles. Returning seven kicks on the season, Reid averaged 30.3 yards-per-return and broke one against Miami for a team-best 74 yards Oct. 23. Finishing his career ranked fourth in school history with 984 career kick return yards, Reid competed with the Wolfpack track & field squad at the 2004 ACC Outdoor Championships, running in the 4x100m relay that finished fourth with a time of 41.25. An Academic All-ACC selection, Reid moved to cornerback from tailback in the 2001 preseason.
