RALEIGH, N.C. - On Saturday, Jan. 29, the NC State rifle team resumed action at the Wake County Range in Holly Springs, N.C., picking up three wins over the Virginia Military Institute and separate men's and women's teams from The Citadel. The Wolfpack shot an aggregate score of 4,483 to claim first place in the meet. VMI finished second with a 4,286 score, while The Citadel men shot a 4,347 and The Citadel women collected 4,139 points.
Despite being sick, sophomore Matthew Gifford led the team in overall points with 1,126 total. Gifford's effort bested sophomore teammate Jennifer Marshall, who led the squad in air rifle total with a 569 score, by a slim margin of two total points. Freshman Tom Knight added 1,121 points, while redshirt-senior Ryan Dorety added 1,112.
Coach Keith Miller and the NC State rifle team will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Collegiate Sectional in Lexington, Va.
