RALEIGH, N.C. - This Saturday, Jan. 22, the NC State rifle team will descend upon Spartanburg, S.C., to compete in the fourth South Eastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) match of the season. Coach Keith Miller and the squad have high expectations for this weekend's conference showdown, and reasonably so, as the Pack stands as the reigning SEARC champions from last season.
The SEARC competition will serve as the first match for the Wolfpack rifle squad this spring. The team hopes to rebound from a loss to Kentucky in their last appearance this past December. Against the Wildcats, NC State fired a 4,538 total score, while Kentucky shot a 4,636 to collect the win. Against Kentucky, sophomore Jennifer Marshall's 581 air rifle score broke the previous school record. Currently, the Cary, N.C., native leads the team in all statistical categories for air rifle, smallbore and total score.
Following this weekend's competition, the Pack will spend the next week practicing at Reynolds Coliseum. Next Saturday, Jan. 29, the squad will play host to VMI and The Citadel.
