David Hicks became the third NC State player to be selected in the 2004 baseball draft on Tuesday when he was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays. Hicks, a senior first baseman, batted .329 this past season and led the Wolfpack in homers (8) and runs batted in (46). The Raleigh native was chosen in the 36th round, joining teammates Michael Rogers and Vern Sterry who were selected in earlier rounds on Monday.
For his career, Hick finished with 261 hits to finish 7th on NC State's all-time list. He also had 72 doubles, leaving him second only to Brian Wright, who holds the school record of 78.
Rogers, a five-time winner of the ACC's Pitcher of the Week award this year, was a second round pick of the Oakland A's on Monday, while Sterry, also a pitcher, was tabbed in the 8th round by San Diego.
