CORAL GABLES, Fla. - NC State righthander Vern Sterry has been named to Collegiate Baseball's 2004 college baseball All-America team. Sterry, who was named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, was a first-team selection a year ago and becomes the first pitcher in NC State history to earn All-America honors twice.
Sterry, who enters play this weekend in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional with a 9-2 won-lost record and a 1.99 ERA, was the only Atlantic Coast Conference pitcher named to any of Collegiate Baseball's three-team All-America squad. Florida State outfielder Eddy Martinez-Esteve was named to the first-team All-America team, and Virginia first baseman/lefthander Joe Koshansky was named second-team utility player. North Carolina catcher Chris Ianetta, Georgia Tech second baseman Eric Patterson, Florida State shortstop Stephen Drew and UNC outfielder Marshall Hubbard all were named third-team All-Americans.
