RALEIGH, N.C. - Following 10 days off for final exams, the NC State baseball team (28-18) will shake off the rust and return to action this week with games at Campbell and against East Carolina at Kinston, N.C.
The Camels (18-28), who defeated the Wolfpack 5-2 on April 14, are coming off a weekend series win over Mercer. Campbell won the first game 10-4 on Friday, then split a Saturday doubleheader by dropping the first game 2-1 and winning the nightcap 3-2.
Rob Finch (1-4, 11.34), who got the win in the April 14 victory against the Wolfpack, will make the start for the Camels. NC State will start redshirt sophomore righthander Michael Rogers (6-3, 2.56) and follow him with senior righthander Vern Sterry (7-2, 2.20). Rogers and Sterry, scheduled to start this weekend at Texas, will both pitch no more than two or three innings against the Camels.
East Carolina (41-7), which defeated the Wolfpack 6-3 on April 21, comes into play this week ranked No. 5 in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll. The Pirates swept Saint Louis this past weekend and have won 20 consecutive games in Conference USA, a conference record. Previously, ECU had a school-record 19-game overall winning streak snapped on May 4 by UNC Wilmington, 15-5, in Greenville.
Neither NC State or East Carolina has announced its pitching plans for Wednesday.
Both games will be broadcast on WKNC-FM (88.1). The broadcasts will be available on gopack.com through Yahoo's subscription service. Live in-game stats can be seen on gopack.com through the Gametracker.
