No. 27 Wake Forest Slips Past Women's Tennis

RALEIGH, N.C. - Sophomore Nandita Chandrasekar and freshman Agustina Arechevaleta both won their second straight singles matches in Wednesday's loss to No. 27 Wake Forest. Chandrasekar improves her record to 11-5, while Arechevaleta now stands at 9-6.
The Pack got off to a great start at the No. 1 doubles with junior Kristin Lam and sophomore Barbara Orlay defeating Ashlee Davis and Katie Martzolf. The Davis/Martzolf duo came into the match ranked at No. 60. Wake Forest finished the doubles round winning at both the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds to claim one point for the doubles competition.
In singles action, Lam dropped a well-fought match to No. 70 Ashlee Davis at the second spot. Lam forced Davis to a tie-breaker in the first set before falling 6-4 in the final set. Senior Vania Apodaca also forced Liz Proctor to three sets after dropping the first set 6-4. In the second set, Apodaca would bounce back to a 3-6 victory, before losing 6-2 in the final set. Arechevaleta's singles victory came in a thrilling 9-7 tie-break victory over Sandie Knight in the third set. Arechevaleta, who had won the first set 6-2, struggled against Knight in the second set and fell 1-6, before winning the match in the third set.
The Wolfpack women's tennis team will return to action against ACC foe No. 56 Maryland at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The match will take place at the Varsity Courts on NC State campus and admission is free.
