NC State was selected to the NCAA Women's Golf Tournament Monday afternoon. The Wolfpack will be one of 21 teams competing at the East Regional, which will be played May 6-8 at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla., located outside of Orlando. The top eight teams and two individuals from each of the three regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 18-21.
The Wolfpack, which finished fourth at the ACC Championship in its last time out, improved each of the three days, finishing strong and seeing Briana Vega place 10th with a three-over-par total. Vega, a senior from North Andover, Mass., leads the squad with a 77.2 stroke average this season (77.1 for the spring).
The NC State women's golf program, in only its fourth season since being canceled in 1986, will be making its third straight trip to the NCAA Regionals - all under the direction of head coach Page Marsh. The Wolfpack tied for 13th at last year's NCAA Regional and finished 14th in 2002. NC State will be joined by ACC foes Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina and Florida State, plus future member Miami at the regional.
