RALEIGH, NC - NC State stands at 5-11 (1-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) on the season after being swept at home by the No. 35 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (12-5, 4-2 ACC), 7-0.
In double competition, senior Jon Davis and sophomore Will Shaw fell at the No. 1 spot to No. 11 Scott Schnugg and Marko Rajevac, 8-6. In the No. 2 slot, junior Conor Taylor and freshman Andre Iriarte lost to Jason Pieters and West Nott 8-5 to allow the Yellow Jackets to claim one point for doubles competition. Sophomore Val Banada and freshman William Noblitt dominated Zachary Rath and Jose Muguruza 8-3, to collect the Pack's lone win of the afternoon.
The Wolfpack put up a hard fight in singles competition, but the Yellow Jackets focus could not be undone. No. 72 Conor Taylor and Val Banada were both placed against nationally ranked opponents. Taylor lost to No. 11 Scott Schnugg in two straight sets at the No. 1 singles. Banada proved to be a tough match for No. 100 Jose Muguruza, battling to three sets before Muguruza sealed the victory. In the No. 3 spot, Will Shaw took Jason Pieters to the limit, winning the tiebreaker in the second set, before falling 10-2 in the third and final set. Georgia Tech would then go on to win the final three spots in straight sets.
The Wolfpack will return to action Wednesday when they host #8 Duke (12-5, 2-1 ACC) at 2 p.m. The match will take place at the Varsity Courts on west campus and admission is free.
