LAKELAND, Fla. - Former NC State women's golfer Briana Vega finished 16th in the LPGA's FUTURES Golf Tour 2005 Qualifying Tournament to earn a spot on the tour with priority status. The 72-hole event was played Nov. 1-5 at three different courses in Lakeland, Fla.
"I'm a little dissapointed with my last round, but overall I am very pleased with how the tournament went and I am thrilled about what lies ahead," Vega said. "This was real confidence boost playing alongside such talented players and I can't wait to get started on the FUTURES Tour in March."
Vega, who played for the Wolfpack from 2003-04 after transferring from UNC-Greensboro, holds school records for career stroke average, season stroke average, lowest 54-hole tournament total and lowest round (68). The Andover, Mass., native carded a two-under-par 70 in the first round at Schalamar Creek Golf Club to tie for third. In the second round Vega posted a one-over 73 at Cleveland Heights Golf Course to slide into a tie for 12th place. She fired an even-par 72 in the third round played at Huntington Hills Golf & Country Club to move into a tie for eighth.
Seven strokes behind the leaders, Vega made the third-round cut for the final round at Cleveland Heights. Carding a five-over-par 77 Friday in the final round, Vega finished four-over and in 16th place, earning priority status on the 2005 FUTURES Tour.
