RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State rifle team fell to Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday, Nov. 20. The top-five Wildcat squad shot a 4,636 total score to eclipse the Pack's 4,538 total. Jennifer Marshall continued to excel during her sophomore campaign, firing a 574 in smallbore and a 581 in air rifle for a 1,155 total score. Both Marshall's smallbore and air rifle scores broke her previous personal records, while her air rifle score also broke the previous school landmark.
In addition to Marshall, sophomore Matthew Gifford had a successful match, shooting a 572 in smallbore and a 574 in air rifle for a 1,146 total. Just like Marshall, Gifford's smallbore and air rifle marks also broke his previous personal best in each event. Freshman Tom Knight added a 1,123 total, while redshirt senior Ryan Dorety acquired a 1,114 score. Redshirt freshman Bill Reynolds, who's score was not counted towards the team total, set new personal records in smallbore (559) and air rifle (541) for a 1,100 total.
The NC State rifle team will return to action in the spring semester, resuming competition at the SEARC #4 event in Spartanburg, S.C., on Jan. 22.
