Just as it did last season when it finished second in the final ACC basketball standings, NC State will be looking to exceed preseason expectations once again in 2004-05. Writers and broadcasters covering the annual Operation ACC Basketball on Sunday have picked coach Herb Sendek's Wolfpack to finish 5th in the upcoming conference race. Sendek, the reigning ACC Coach of the Year, guided the Pack to the league's second best mark last season (11-5), while Julius Hodge was the Player of the Year.
In voting for preseason player the year for the upcoming campaign, Hodge received the second most votes behind Wake Forest guard Chris Paul. Hodge was also named to the preseason all conference squad, joining Paul, Rashad McCants of North Carolina, Sean May of UNC and Duke's J.J. Redick.
NC State, ranked 19th in the preseason coaches poll, will play the first of two exhibition games at the RBC Center this Tuesday night when it hosts Fayetteville State at 7:30 p.m. The Wolfpack Radio Network will provide coverage beginning at 7:00.
