Wolfpack Women Defeat Duke, 121-120

DURHAM, N.C. - Freshman Rebecca Perry won the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle to lead NC State women's swimming to a 121-120 win over the Blue Devils in Durham, N.C. One day after falling to Richmond by a single point, NC State responded on Jan. 19 with the victory over ACC foe Duke. Perry won the 50 free with a time of 24.09 and the 100 free with a mark of 52.15.
The Blue Devils won both the 400 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay, but the Wolfpack placed 2nd and 3rd in both events to stay close in the team standings. Junior Abby Lewis picked up four points for her second place finish in the 1000 free with a 10:25.22 time. Freshman Lindsay Barwegen (2nd, 1:56.02) and junior Catherine Parks (3rd, 1:58.09) put in strong performances in the 200 free, and Karen Burbella (2nd, 2:07.96) finished second in the 200 IM while teammate Jessica Koenig (3rd, 2:08.32) also finished strong.
Sophomore Molly Culberson won both the 3M (328.28) and the 1M (295.05) dives as she continues to impress as one of the top divers.
The women's swimming team will face Clemson and Alabama on Jan. 31 in Raleigh in their last meet of the 2004 season before the ACC Championships.
