Three Men Take Wins Against No. 11 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 11 Virginia Cavaliers defeated the NC State men's swimming and diving team on Saturday, 155-83. With the loss the Wolfpack falls to 5-3, 1-3 on the season. Vitor Assuncao Cullen Jones and Rob Yeager picked up wins for NC State. Assuncao, previously unbeaten in duals this season, was a winner on the 3-meter board, and finished third on the 1-meter. Jones, the CollegeSwimming.com performer of the week, took his second consecutive win in the 50 free. Yeager turned in his best time of the season in the 200 breast for a victory.
Assuncao scored a 353.55 on the 3-meter board for his win. Steve House scored in fifth. Jones turned in a time of 20.70 in the 50 free, and finished second in the 100 free with a mark of 45.71.
Robert Terrell finished second in the 100 back with a time of 1:50.51, a mark that was 17-hundredths of a second off his season-best time. Peter Pessagno finished third in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.21.
Yeager and Brian Pursley finished one and two in the 200 breast. Yeager took 11-hundredths of a second off his previous best of the season. The Pack gained maximum points in the 400 relay with a first- and second-place finish.
The Pack will travel up the road to Harrisonburg, Va. to face the James Madison Dukes on Sunday at noon. Brooks Teal was the head coach at JMU before returning to his alma mater in 2000 to take the helm of the Wolfpack.
