Cavs Take Down Pack Women, 147-91

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Wolfpack women's swimming and diving squad fell on the road to No. 18 Virginia on Saturday. The Cavaliers took a 147-91 victory, dropping NC State to 3-5, 0-5 on the season. The meet is the first of three in a three-day stretch for the Wolfpack. Sophomore diver Molly Culberson was successful on the boards, swiping wins on the 1- and 3- meter boards. She led a 1-2-3 sweep for NC State on the 1-meter.
Culberson, who had her second-highest point total of the year on the 3-meter board, collected her ninth and 10th victories of the season. Christy Welch finished second on both boards, and Ashley Lamberton took third on the 1-meter for the sweep. Shelbey Kosova scored in fourth on the 3-meter for the Pack.
Karen Burbella finished second in the 400 IM. Her time of 4:23.10 in the Cavalier's home pool is the second-best of the season for the senior. The mark is an NCAA "B" standard qualifying time, her second of the year in the event.
With a winning mark assured for Virginia, NC State picked up maximum points in the 200 breaststroke and 400 free relay end the day. Lola Woodworth turned in a time of 2:22.02, followed in scoring position by Halle Kiehlmier and Priscilla Humberstone.
The squad will load the bus and head up the road to the neutral site of Harrisonburg, Va. to meet the Richmond Spiders on Sunday. Action will begin at noon.
