Chuck Amato Quotes From Thursday...
On Day-3 Practice:
"I thought we'd get rained out today and yesterday. We actually switched around practice yesterday because of the possibility of rainstorms in the afternoon. Thank goodness, Mother Nature has been good to us. Today was the first day we put shoulder pads on. We did a drill today with the defensive backs and the wideouts; it was kind of like the last play of the game or the half where it's one-on-one. The quarterback has to put it in there, the defensive back has to go get it and the wideout has to come down with it. Boy was there good competition in that drill. It was really good to see them compete."
On the change of tempo with players wearing shoulder pads:
"We did everything without them, but they feel more protected by having them on. We'll keep them on tomorrow and on Saturday we can go full pads, but we're going to go with shells---that's everything but kneepads. Saturday is our fifth practice, but it would really be in years past the morning practice of two-a-days. And in years past, we'd be in helmets and shoulder pads. We've got a long time in front of us and we're going to take our time on that hitting stuff."
Discusses Sunday's McDonald's Day of Champions ,which will include an open practice for the fans:
"It's going to be a long day because we're going to get them up early and take them to church downtown as a team, which we do twice a year. From that point on they're going to be on the go, getting their pictures taken and all that stuff. We were going to have the weightlifting like we've had in the past, but because of having to practice, I said let's throw them all a bone and let everyone come see a full practice in the stadium."
