Men's Soccer Blanks VMI 4-0 in Exhibition

Lexington, Va. - In the first exhibition game of the preseason, the NC State men's soccer team downed VMI 4-0 Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.. The contest was played in three 30 minute periods, differing from the normal two 45 minutes halves. The Wolfpack will make a quick turn around and host a Red/White scrimmage tomorrow afternoon at SAS Soccer Stadium at 3:00 p.m.
Freshman Chris Wheaton, from Raleigh's Millbrook High School, started the scoring off with the Wolfpack's first goal of the game off of an assist from classmate Casey Conner. Then it was NC State's top returning scorer from last season, sophomore Aaron King, taking the game over. King netted a hat trick and finished off the Wolfpack scoring. King picked up assists from fellow sophomores Bryant Salter and Federico Peria.
Sophomores Matt Durrant played 30 minutes, and Jorge Gonzalez played the remaining 60 minutes to combined for the shutout.
The Wolfpack will return to action tomorrow with its Red/White scrimmage at 3:00 p.m. at SAS Soccer Stadium, and will open up the 2003 season by hosting the Adidas Wolfpack Classic. The Wolfpack will take on Georgia Southern Saturday at 2:00 p.m., and then host Liberty on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
