Today was luxurious for the Pack. Instead of the normal 7:00 am wakeup, they didn't have to be at breakfast until 9:00 this morning. They met for a couple of hours, had lunch, got dressed for practice, met again, then hit the field around 12:50. Today's was a lighter contact workout after yesterday's scrimmage, but it lasted a full two hours. They began with special teams work, then mostly individual drills before a few periods of 11-on-11. It wouldn't be a practice without a rain shower, but after rain in the first few minutes, it was dry the rest of the workout.
It's always a popular day when former Wolfpack All-American and current Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) director Johnny Evans is at practice. Not ONLY because he's such a great guy, but because the FCA brings popsicles out a couple of times during camp. Instead of just Gatorade and water during breaks today, the team enjoyed popsicles. And it's not just the players - the coaches down a few themselves every time Johnny comes out. One of his sons, Andrew, was with him watching the workout.
There was a new addition to the practice field today - around all four sides of the huge tower that stands between the fields were huge signs, with the word "FINISH" in red on each one. Although the Pack's motto for this season is "Cut It Loose," "FINISH" will always be their creed.
After practice, the entire team attended church in Cary, then came back to the Murphy Center for dinner and more meetings. As I've told you before, Coach Amato really hates to practice on Sunday, but taking this Sunday off would mean missing a two-a-day workout in the new schedule. So he made sure that the players were able to attend church and get a least a bit of a break today.
There are only two days of two-a-days left before classes start on Wednesday.
