So Wolfpack fans, can't wait to tailgate at NC State's home opener against Western Carolina on August 30th? Well this year don't just throw away your bottles and cans. Instead be one of the first to "Chuck It" into the nearest recycling bin.
NC State University's Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling and Waste Industries are proud to introduce the new "Chuck it" recycling program at Carter Finley Stadium. This program is the brainchild of Paul Mobley, a sophomore Mechanical-Engineering major from Raleigh.
"When Paul came up with the idea we knew we had a winner. NC State has the potential to divert more than 50 tons of material from the landfill during a single football season," said Sarah Ketchem, Programs Manager from the NC State OWRR. "This program is one of the first of its kind and we are excited about the potential!"
Special "Chuck It " zones will be located throughout the parking lots and outside the gates of Carter Finley Stadium. In addition, "Chuckwagons" will cruise the parking lots of the RBC Center prior to games collecting cans and bottles from fans as they tailgate before the Pack takes the field. The "Chuck It" Recycling program is staffed by NC State student volunteers and OWRR workers. Wolfpack fans will also be reminded to recycle in special video announcements featuring Coach Chuck Amato and Jim Perry, President and CEO of Waste Industries. " When Coach Amato speaks our fans listen", remarked Charlie Cobb, Associate Athletics Director. " We want the "Chuck It" Recycling Program to be a model for all other universities to follow."
Waste Industries is the title sponsor of the "Chuck It" recycling program. "Our company is a long-time supporter of NC State and Wolfpack Football. We're pleased to participate in this exciting program at Carter Finley Stadium," said Jim Perry President/CEO of Waste Industries, which is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina. " Our desire is to help raise the level of awareness on the importance of recycling as a growing environmental need."
The OWRR oversees solid waste and recycling services for the university and last year diverted over 2487 tons of material from area landfills. Additional support for the "Chuck It" Recycling Program was provided through a grant from the Wake County Environmental Services.
