Of the position he now occupies, NC State head baseball coach Elliott Avent says, "It's the only job I ever wanted." And Avent has done such a good job this season that he has been recognized as the "Tar Heel of the Week" by the Raleigh News and Observer. In Sunday's City and State section, a story written by Ned Barnett details Avent's career and the many struggles he has faced along the way. This season, Avent's Wolfpack has become one of the surprise teams in college baseball, rising at one point to as high as No. 5 in the national polls. NC State is 38-12 heading into next weekend's season-ending series at Georgia Tech.
