Chones Named Most Valuable Player

RALEIGH, N.C. - Redshirt-junior center Kaayla Chones was named the team's Most Valuable Player at the 2003 NC State All Sports banquet, Tuesday, April 22. Chones led NC State for the second-straight year in scoring and rebounding with 13.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg. Along the way the she also became the Pack's 21st player to reach the 1,000 career point plateau. Below is a listing of her accomplishments this season.
Led NC State all season in points and rebounds, finished averaging 13.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg ... named second team All-ACC ... recorded her 1,000th career point, becoming the 21st NC State player to do so in history ... also recorded her 600th career rebound ... named to two all-tournament teams including the LMU Tournament and GlaxoSmithKline Invitational ... recorded eight double-doubles bringing her total to 21 for her career, which was second in the ACC and is seventh all-time at NC State ... led the ACC all season in defensive rebounds with 6.07 to end the season ... grabbed 19 rebounds against Florida State, the second-most of any ACC player this season ... had five, 20 point games ... ranked third in rebounding in the ACC, fourth in field goal pct. (142/269, .528) ... was 10th in ACC scoring with 13.8 ppg ... finished fifth in blocks with 1.21 bpg ... second-straight year she led the team in scoring (13.8) and rebounding (7.8) ... ranks 10th all-time in total rebounds with 649 ... her 12.4 ppg career average rankes 14th all-time at NC State ... tri-captain ... has led the team in scoring percentage all three seasons (.563, .572 and .528) ... currently ranks sixth all-time for career field goal pct. at .553 ... 13th all-time for blocks in a season with 34 and sixth all-time for career blocks with 85 ... one of two players to start every game.
