Monday, April 14, was a special night for the NC State Athletic Department. The top student-athletes all came together at the Brownstone Hotel in Raleigh for the annual NC State Scholar Athlete Banquet. The event, once again sponsored by Caterpillar, honored 192 student-athletes who compiled a 3.0 grade point average during the spring semester of 2002, and some 208 student-athletes who also achieved similar honors during the fall semester of 2002. It included 99 student-athletes who also made the NC State Dean's List in the spring and 106 student-athletes who were Dean's List honorees in the fall.
Some of the highlights of the evening included remarks from NC State Associate Athletics Director David Horning and Jim Brophy from Caterpillar. The guest speaker was Dr. Clyde Chesney, a former NC State scholar-athlete and football standout. Dr. Chesney is now an administrator at Tennessee State University. The NC State Academic Program for Student Athletes is under the direction of Phil Moses. Moses presented numerous awards during the evening.
