The women's golf team will take to the course for its final tournament before the ACC Championship this weekend for the Lady Boilermaker, hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana. The two-day, three-round event will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Birck Boilermaker Course, a par 72, which measures 5,900 yards. Thirty-six holes are scheduled for Saturday, with the remaining 18 to follow Sunday.
The Wolfpack will be joined by 12 other teams, including: Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
NC State will take six players for participation in the event. The usual suspects of Colby Cobb, Briana Vega, Erica Wein, Courtney Pomeranz and Sarah Bonner will be joined by Leslie Stubblefield. Stubblefield participated in one round of competition in the fall before withdrawing because a shoulder injury, but has recovered successfully. In her last outing with the junior varsity squad, she captured the individual medalist honors at the Lady Bulldog.
Cobb has been the most consistent player for the team. She and Vega have the lowest scoring averages on the season. Wein has made tremendous improvements over the course of the spring and had two solid rounds of golf at the Bryan National, where she finished tied for 15th. Pomeranz and Bonner have shown brilliance at times during the year.
NC State hopes to return to Purdue in late May. It is also the site of the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Tournament. First, the team will have to concentrate on a solid performance this weekend, and then at next weekend's ACC Championships in Clemmons, N.C. at the Salem Glen Course.
