Throughout the women's golf season, GoPack.com will feature a series of special interviews with members of the women's golf team. The series is generated to create an interest in the team and the individuals that are competing and representing NC State. This week, we sat down with Courtney Pomeranz.
There are two things Courtney Pomeranz has been around her whole life: golf and NC State. She personifies the ideal example of the term legacy. "My dad, grandpa, uncle and aunt all went to State," explains Pomeranz. Originally from Sanford, N.C., Pomeranz has been attending NC State athletic events since her early childhood. In addition to her love of the Wolfpack, she also discovered the game of golf at a very young age. "I used to go out on the course with my dad when I was three and then I started playing tournaments and becoming a more serious player around the age of 12."
To those close to her, it was a foregone conclusion that Pomeranz would attend NC State, but another factor played a role in the decision. Surprisingly, her college destination was UNC Wilmington due to the influence of Pomeranz 's other love -- golf. "Initially I narrowed my list down to NC State and Wilmington but at the time, I wasn't comfortable with State being a first-year golf program," says Pomeranz, now a member of the Wolfpack's scoring four. However, Coach Page Marsh quickly built a solid foundation for the women's golf program to grow, and the team reached the NCAA Regionals in just its second year of reinstatement. Pomeranz was impressed by the team's success and decided to become a part of the Pack, her desire to play for NC State was irrefutable. After two seasons as the low scorer for the Seahawks, Pomeranz made the move closer home, and joined the Pack. "I've always had Wolfpack spirit. I knew I would have more opportunities to become a better player under Coach Marsh, and there are more people here to help you with athletics and academics. I love NC Sate!"
The women's golf team provides Pomeranz with the same type of family unity that she has been accustomed to her whole life. "We are there for each other and everybody is comfortable with one another, which makes traveling to tournaments an enjoyable experience," states Pomeranz, now a junior majoring in communication. Growing up such a diehard fan, she relishes the opportunity to defeat rival Atlantic Coast Conference teams when competing in the same tournaments. "We want to beat any ACC school but we know that if we can beat Duke on any given day we are getting better because they are so good."
Pomeranz has her sights set on continuing another family tradition after graduating college. "I want to play on a pro tour like my uncle who is on the senior tour. I will probably start out with the Future's Tour, which is similar to the Buy.com Tour for men, and then qualify for some LPGA Tour events," she explains. With future golfing aspirations within her grasp, following in family footsteps has never been a hard concept for Courtney Pomeranz to accomplish.

Q: Who are your favorite golfers or players you mold your game after?
A: I really enjoy watching Annika Sorenstam play, she has the rare gift to know how to win and make the big putt. I also admire certain attributes and gamesmanship displayed by players such as Se Ri Pak, Fred Couples, and Tiger Woods.
Q: Have you ever had a hole in one?
A: Unfortunately no, I have come really close though. I want one but I have not been able to pull it off just yet.
Q: What do you like to do when you are not competing on the course?
A: I am addicted to soap operas and craft shows. I am a big fan of the decorating shows, especially Trading Spaces. I am good with crafts; I make candles and paint bookshelves, birdhouses, and stools for family and friends.
Q: It has been said that you are a good cook, what are your specialties?
A: My roommates prefer that I make chicken fajitas or barbecue chicken. My favorite meal to cook is chicken teriyaki, green beans, and corn on the cob. My mom gave me all of her recipes but I have not gotten to the casseroles though because I do not have enough patience.
Q: What are the team goals for the spring season?
A: We are going to go to nationals -- that is our sole mindset! We are going to do well there because we have a special bet with our coach, and the team is really looking forward to her going through with her end of the deal.
