AUBURN, Ala. - Five NC State divers will be in action this weekend at the Zone B Championships in Auburn, Alabama, competing for slots in the NCAA Championships. Three women and two men set qualifying marks during the season and will begin preliminary action on Friday at the James E. Martin Aquatic Facility.
Freshman Molly Culberson (Charlotte, N.C.) will join seniors Erin Bailey (Holly Springs, N.C.) and Amber O'Reilly (Alexandria, Va.) in the competition. Culberson, an All-ACC selection, finished in third-place on the three-meter springboard at last month's ACC Championship. Bailey was a finalist on the one-meter, and O'Reilly made both the one- and three-meter cuts.
Freshman TJ Ferguson (Plainfield, Conn.) and sophomore Jared Bench (West Babylon, N.Y.) will represent the men's team. Ferguson showed improvement throughout the season and made a big move in the finals of the three-meter competition at the conference championships to finish in sixth place. Bench was a dual-event finalist, and finished fourth on the one- and three-meter boards.
To qualify for the Zone Championships, one must score at least a 300 on the one-meter board, and 310 on the three-meter during the season. The one-meter diving will be held Friday morning, March 14, and the three-meter diving is slated for Saturday evening, March 15. Auburn University will provide a live scoreboard on the web.
